Miley Cyrus Vs LeBron James: Whose Rates are Higher?March 06, 2014
Ever wonder what the stars pay for car insurance? It has to be a lot, right? Well, we got curious too. So doing what we do, we did a little research to get a rough estimate of how much both Miley Cyrus and LeBron James pay for car insurance. Both Miley Cyrus and LeBron James own some really fancy vehicles, but there are other factors that have a big impact on how much they pay for auto insurance. Read on and see what those factors are, as well as how much each of them pays for car insurance.
Figuring out who pays more for car insurance
There’s a lot of personal and technical information required to get a car insurance quote and we just didn’t have access to that information. So naturally, we made it up. Here’s just some of the information we used to get a car insurance quote for Miley Cyrus and LeBron James that we had to make up:
- Coverage levels
- Miles driven
- Odometer readings
We also had to pick a primary residence. Both of these celebrities had more than one residence. We figured LeBron James spends most of his time in his Miami mansion, but for Miley Cyrus, we had to pick one residence at random. She moves around a lot, so it’s difficult to tell where she’s spending the most time. Other than these items, we were able to use accurate information.
Miley Cyrus’s Auto Insurance
Getting Miley Cyrus’ car insurance quote wasn’t an easy task. We started with her age. That much we knew — She’s 20 years old (turning 21 in November). We also know that she has a high-school education and does not currently attend college. We used her Studio City home as her official residence.
Then came the tricky part: coverage levels. You’d assume we’d just set everything to the max and forget it, but after some debate we concluded that it wouldn’t be accurate.
Miley almost certainly has someone that helps manage financial decisions like this one, and we hope that person is as savvy about car insurance as we are. That means they’d opt for 300/500/100 coverage (learn about liability coverage limits and what these numbers mean).
Why not more? Why not just have some crazy high number? She can afford it, right? Well, a financially savvy person would buy adequate coverage for the vehicles she drives, but in the event someone—perhaps troublesome paparazzi—tries to sue her, she’d be covered by an umbrella policy. This would help keep her auto insurance costs down while still protecting her personal assets.
Another major factor in the price of Miley Cyrus’ car insurance was how often she drives. On most car insurance quote sites, you’re asked whether you drive your car for pleasure or whether you use it for your daily commute. We assume Miley drives for pleasure and that, between her six different luxury cars, she probably drives less than 3,000 miles per year on each one. This makes a big difference because it’s a less than standard exposure to the risk of being in an accident. The less you drive, the less likely you are to be involved in an accident. At least, that’s what the statistics say.
>The last assumption we made was regarding deductibles. We figured Miley Cyrus wouldn’t have any problem paying a $1,000 deductible, so that’s what we put down on the quote form. Having a high deductible can also lower your auto insurance rates. Just make sure you can pay the deductible should you ever have to.
Now, with the technical stuff out of the way, we submitted our quote for car insurance to three different insurance companies. The average cost for car insurance for Miley Cyrus turned out to be $657 per month. That’s $7,884 a year. That includes coverage for all six of her cars: a 2012 Porsche Cayenne, a 2012 McClaren, a 2012 Mercedes-Benz SL550 Convertible, a Mercedes-Benz ML450 (Hybrid SUV), a Range Rover Sport, and an Infinity G35 coupe.
LeBron James car insurance
Using LeBron James’ mansion in Coconut Grove, FL as his primary residence, we ran a car insurance quote for him too. Again, this was a lengthy process because of LeBron’s extensive collection of cars. We ran this quote including his H2 Hummer, Jeep Wrangler, Chevy Camaro SS, Porsche 911 Turbo, Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG, and his Dodge Challenger R/T. We had to omit his Ferrari 430 and Maybach 57S as they weren’t listed on the insurer’s site. We think that makes it a more fair comparison since LeBron James owns more cars than Miley Cyrus.
We kept LeBron’s coverage levels the same as Miley Cyrus’ coverage and we made sure to raise his deductibles for collision coverage and comprehensive coverage. That way, we’re comparing apples to apples. After applying discounts and getting an average quote based on returned quotes from three different national insurance brands, we discovered that LeBron James pays roughly $9,070 a year in car insurance. That’s over $755 a month in car insurance payments.
So there you have it: LeBron James pays more for car insurance than Miley Cyrus.
