A Japanese company, Nissan traces its roots all the way back to 1911, with the founding of the Kwaishinsha Motor Works. That company grew, expanded and merged to become Datsun in 1932, then Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. in 1934. Nissan is now the world’s sixth largest automaker (as of 2011) and encompasses not only the Nissan brand but also Infiniti and the newly revived Datsun brand, which is being used to sell sub-compact cars in developing markets. Popular Nissan models include the economical Versa, the sporty Maxima and the sleek Murano crossover.
About the Nissan Altima
The Nissan Altima got a major overhaul for the 2013 model year, with a more stylish body, a spruced-up interior, and better gas mileage. “We changed everything but the name,” Nissan boasted. Car and Driver’s review of the 2.5 SL Altima praised the new details: the Infiniti-like styling, the comfortable seats and sporty feel. “The Altima keenly sliced in and out of corners,” Car and Driver says, while criticizing the long braking distance and the steering. The 2013 Altima is available as a four-door sedan with seven trim options and a two-door coupe.
Nissan Altima Motorsports
The Nissan Altima V8 Supercar made its racetrack debut in Australia in the 2013 International V8 Supercars Championship. The new Supercar was designed and built in just nine months. “Not only does it look spectacular, but also its unique features and aggressive design ensure that Nissan Motorsport will stand out from the rest of the field,” said Kelly Team racing director Todd Kelly. The Nissan Altima V8 Supercar first competed in the United States at the Austin 400 in May 2013.
Nissan Altima Environmental Impact
The Nissan Altima, although only available as a conventional-fuel model, is a fairly green sedan. The 2013 Altima gets an impressive 27 mpg in the city and 38 on the highway, and it’s also the lightest car in its class.
While its all-electric car, the Leaf, has gotten a lot of press, Nissan quietly ceased manufacturing its Nissan Altima hybrid in 2011 after sales proved disappointing. However, Nissan has said it will introduce 15 new hybrid models by 2016. One of those will most likely be an Altima hybrid, say auto experts.
