Acura is the luxury division of the Japanese automaker Honda. The brand made the jump to North American markets in 1986, Hong Kong in 1991, Mexico in 2004, and China in 2006. They are not currently available in Japanese markets. Acura also markets racing cars. The “A” in the Acura logo can also be seen as an italicized “H” for Honda. Acura also has a “mobility program” which ensures that disabled drivers are safe in their vehicles. The program offers cash to defray the cost of modifications for disabled drivers.
About the Acura TL
The Acura TL is an upscale sedan from the luxury division of Honda. Reviewers found high value in its spacious and comfortable interior, extensive standard features, and solid performance, and USNews ranked it fourth in its class.
The standard engine is a 3.5 liter V6 that generates strong acceleration and is more or less comparable to the AWD 3.7 liter engine. Reviewers tend to prefer the manual over the automatic transmission, although all seem to agree that it handles well for a car of its size.
The interior is roomy and comfortable, although the trunk space – while average for the class – leaves something to be desired. Standard features include moonroof, heated front seats, and Bluetooth; options features include different exterior and interior styling, keyless entry, and a souped-up audio system.
Recognition for the Acura TL
The 2006 model TL was named the “Best Sports Sedan with Luxury Touches” and “Bes t Blend of Sport and Luxury” by ConsumerSearch.
Acura TL Environmental Impact
The standard-issue Acura TL gets only 20/29mpg city/highway, which is a bit low for its class but not abysmal. Since the Acura TL has been discontinued for the 2014 model year, there are no apparent plans to revamp it as a hybrid.
