About BMW

Otherwise known as Bayerische Motoren Werke AG or Bavarian Motor Works in the United States, BMW is a German manufacturer of cars, motorcycles and engines. Founded in 1916, the Munich-based company owns Mini as well as Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.

About the BMW X5

Built with superior on- and off-road ability, hence the luxury Sport Activity Vehicle (SAV) label, the BMW X5 is a crossover that’s evolved through three generations into one of the highest rated and reviewed cars in its class. First built in 1999, the midsize BMW X5 was rebooted in 2006 and again in 2013 with the F15 model. Boasting handling more akin to a top-flight sedan, a standard 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine, modern styling and an optional third row, the BMW X5 is a vehicle on the rise. Of the 108,000 X5s manufactured in 2013, about 40,000 were sold within the United States.

BMW Environmental Impact

Want a greener X5 with all of BMW’s legendary performance? In 2012, BMW introduced a hybrid version of the X5 sedan with an EPA-estimated 25 mpg in the city, 33 mpg on the highway. BMW calls its hybrid X5 “a hybrid that looks, drives and acts like a sports car.” However, Car and Driver magazine, while calling it ” an extremely well-balanced sports sedan,” criticized the hybrid X5′ performance. “We kept wondering who on earth wants a 335i that drives a bit like a Prius,” the test-drive review says. The starting price for the 2014 model of the ActiveHybrid 3 is just under $50,000.
