About Dodge

Formed in Michigan in 1900 by the Dodge brothers as a parts supplier to Detroit’s automakers, Dodge evolved into an American car manufacturer in its own right in 1915. Now a Division of The Chrysler Corporation, the Dodge brand has experienced a number of dramatic changes in recent years. In 2009, Ram transitioned from being Dodge’s leading pickup model to being the umbrella brand for all Dodge trucks. Additionally, Fiat, which has a controlling interest in Chrysler, designated Dodge as the group’s “performance-focused” line of vehicles, which includes the Charger, the Avenger and the Durango.

In May of 2014, Fiat announced a major restructuring of the brand. Going forward Dodge will be Fiat’s performance-focused brand, somewhere between Chrysler and Alfa Romeo.

About the Dodge Dakota

A pickup truck that’s bigger than the Ford Ranger and the Chevy S-10, the Dodge Dakota features great “tweener” size and was the first mid-size pickup to feature an optional V8 engine. First manufactured in 1986, Dodge ceased production of the model after 25 years in 2011, but the truck may yet stage a comeback. About 12,000 Dakotas were purchased domestically in the model’s final production year. Due in part to the Dakota’s unique rack and pinion steering, the model has been repurposed as a work truck, emergency vehicle for police and fire departments, as well as a brush truck.

Dodge Dakota Environmental Impact

The Dodge Dakota was designed to offer superior fuel economy than the larger pickup trucks its features emulate. According to the EPA fuel economy ratings, you can expect 14 mpg city and up to 18 mpg highway for 2010 model of this mid-size truck.
