Honda Element Car Insurance

June 18, 2018

The Honda Element was the first in a long line of boxy cars designed for the active consumer. Unlike most SUVs, it can only seat four people, but the floor is made of easy-to-clean rubber and the entire car is designed to maximize cargo space and accessibility.

The base engine is a four-cylinder, which reviewers said was powerful enough for daily driving. The Element also ranked well for safety and reliability. The base model can also be upgraded to an all-wheel drive edition. Critics noted the lack of high-end interior materials in the Element. That said, the Element is designed to be practical, not luxurious. If you want luxury, check out the Porsche Cayenne or Range Rover Sport.

Honda Element Quick Facts

  • The Honda Element gained a reputation for being dog-friendly; so much so that they released a Dog Friendly Pet Accommodation System in 2010
  • It’s large, boxy exterior matches its 0-60 mph time: 9.7 seconds
  • The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) named the Element a “Top Safety Pick” in 2010

Honda designed its Element with an eye towards a younger more active population. It is the kind of car where you can throw two kayaks on top, two bikes on the back and still have room for four friends and a dog inside.

Although it can’t compete with the sleek design of the Ford Edge, or the pace of the Ford Mustang, the Honda Element cornered the market: Outdoorsy minivan with plenty of space.

As its success became apparent, other manufacturers began to take notice and by 2009 the Element was one of many compact SUVs with an eye towards the camping customer. Unfortunately, other models had better engines and more modern designs and the Honda Element fell behind. It was the related decline in sales that led to its discontinuation in 2011.

Although Honda may no longer manufacture them, the Honda Element still runs on our roads. Compare Honda Element car insurance with Compare.com and see how much you can save today!
