  • A speeding ticket from your last trip down Highway 69 doesn’t sting your wallet just once. It can raise your car insurance premiums for years. Tickets are red flags for insurance companies, suggesting you’re more likely to file a claim, and a higher risk means higher rates.

Too late to change to another company
I would shop around depending on how much coverage you need. Nationwide has handled my past claims, although, as you might suspect, there were some frustrating times spent trying to glean information from representatives. Nationwide has changed since I first started with them. They used to have independent agencies; now they seem to be just representative agencies with no real concern for people—just customers who pay their bills every month if they "accept" your business.

Cons
  • Few local offices

  • Average premiums may be higher than some competitors

Too Expensive
The price is $300 a month, which is crazy. Please drop the price, or I'll look elsewhere.

Texas Auto Insurance Requirements

A large naval ship docked at a harbor with city buildings and a blue sky in the background.

You need more than a tank of gas to get on the road in Beaumont. Texas has clear automobile insurance requirements that every driver must follow.

Here are the minimum coverages you need, according to the Texas Department of Insurance:

  • Bodily injury liability: $30,000 per person and $60,000 per accident

  • Property damage liability: $25,000 per accident

You don’t need to buy uninsured/underinsured motorist (UM/UIM) coverage or personal injury protection (PIP), but you must opt out in writing if you don’t want them.[7]

Is minimum coverage enough in Beaumont?

State minimums may fall short if you cause a multi-car pileup or total someone’s truck at a busy intersection. If costs go beyond your coverage limit, you have to pay the rest out of pocket. For that reason, the Texas Department of Insurance suggests you buy higher liability limits. Insurance professionals typically recommend drivers purchase 100/300/100 liability limits for greater financial protection from at-fault accidents.
