Rate hikes yet again. Leaving USAA after 28 years.
Reviewed in Arizona on July 2025
They have significantly increased rates over the last few years. I have excellent credit, a clean driving record, and no claims, yet rates increased again this renewal by another $160 per 6 months. My rate has increased over $400 in the last 18 months to now $1562.68 for 6 months.

Our experience with USAA was horrendous. We lost our home to Hurricane Beryl. Having been a member for 27 years and never making any claims, this experience was indescribable. USAA, to whom we had paid $410.36 for years, had me doing their job. No tickets, no DUI, and a 20-year-old driver. That is too expensive for anyone. After Beryl, there was no power, which meant no electricity, no internet, no open stores, no food, and no gas. By the beginning of the second month, USAA tried to make Texas Wind and Air responsible, then FEMA, for paying for the broken roof, fallen trees, flooded home, and damaged AC. We decided to pack up and move on our own dime again. USAA is and always will be a ripoff. Very expensive to be a USAA member. Never again. We are just fine with AAA. Personally, the old ways of taking care of folks with insurance are only found and available with AAA. USAA has not stopped offering me a job with their claims department since Hurricane Beryl, though. I must know what I am doing better than my agent, who got fired for drinking and falsifying claims documents. There's more to the storyline with USAA. Plan on having to call them constantly to make sure they are at work.

Why we picked this company

USAA offers some of the lowest rates for the Audi A3, but it’s available only to current and former military members and their immediate families. Safe drivers can save even more with the SafePilot telematics program. Low-mileage drivers can also save with the SafePilot Miles pay-per-mile program.

Pros
  • Low Audi A3 rates

  • Excellent customer service

  • Offers banking and investment services

Cons
  • Few local branches

  • Eligibility limited to military personnel

  • Customer service not available 24/7

Currently Disgruntled with State Farm Insurance
Reviewed in Oregon on December 2025
Due to State Farm also being our homeowner insurance, and due to them canceling our homeowner insurance and the emotional effect of this cancellation, we are not too happy with State Farm. When pricing other home insurance providers, we learned from these potential providers that we were paying considerably higher for our State Farm car insurance than other insurance companies. Thus, if I were to advise a friend regarding State Farm, I would tell them my experience was that I found much cheaper car insurance with other providers. However, the agent LuAnn Davidson, our State Farm agent, on four different occasions went to bat for us (took our side) when we had issues with State Farm and caused the issue to be resolved in our favor. We were with State Farm for more than 10 years. I would advise my friend if you are going with State Farm, have LuAnn be your agent.

Why we picked this company

State Farm is another affordable option for A3 drivers, especially if you have a clean driving record or own a home. State Farm advertises more than $1,300 in average savings when you bundle your auto and homeowners insurance together.

If you drive for a rideshare service full-time or as a side hustle, State Farm can also protect you and your A3 in between trips with rideshare coverage.

Pros
  • Many agents nationwide

  • Highly rated mobile app

  • Multiple safe driver discounts available

Cons
  • Deductible rewards not available

  • Doesn’t offer accident forgiveness

  • Gap insurance not available

Why we picked this company

Allstate offers more optional coverages than many insurers, including accident forgiveness, rideshare insurance, and rental reimbursement. If you’re in the market for an A3, Allstate partners with TrueCar, providing savings and free vehicle reports. It also offers extended warranty coverage to cover repairs that your insurance policy doesn’t.

Pros
  • Accident forgiveness available

  • 24/7 phone and chat support

  • Can buy a policy online

Cons
  • Poor Trustpilot rating[1]

  • Below-average claims satisfaction[2]

  • Doesn’t offer new car replacement

Audi A3 Insurance Rates by Model Year

With a starting manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $40,100 for the 2026 model, the A3 has a higher-than-average insurance cost of $175 per month, according to our data. That tracks with Audi’s reputation for making luxury vehicles.

The newer your A3, the more you’ll pay for insurance. Newer cars typically cost more to insure because they’re worth more, and repairs or replacements are more expensive. As your car ages and its value drops, your premiums tend to go down.

Here’s a look at average rates for the Audi A3 by model year, according to Compare.com data.

Audi A3 Insurance Rates by Driver Age

Drivers with more experience generally pay lower Audi A3 insurance rates. Younger drivers, especially teens, have the highest rates because of their inexperience and higher crash risks.[3]

Insurers reward your time behind the wheel. Rates typically drop through your 20s and 30s, then level off before rising again later in life. Seniors typically enjoy the lowest car insurance rates because they drive fewer miles and make fewer claims.[4]

The table below shows average monthly premiums by age group, based on our data.

Cheapest Audi A3 car insurance for teens and drivers younger than 25

Auto insurance rates for young Audi A3 drivers are higher because teens have greater crash risks and less experience behind the wheel than older drivers. Drivers aged 16–19 are involved in fatal crashes nearly three times more than adults, largely due to inexperience, speeding, and distractions, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The chart below shows average rates for young drivers from different insurers, based on our data.

Senior drivers usually have the lowest insurance rates of any age group because they have more experience, drive fewer miles, and have safer driving habits. Older drivers tend to follow the rules of the road and avoid driving at risky times, like rush hour or in bad weather.[5]

Audi A3 Insurance Rates by Driving Record

Your driving record plays one of the biggest roles in your Audi A3 insurance rate. Safe drivers with clean records pay less because insurers view them as less likely to file a claim. On the other hand, accidents, speeding tickets, or driving under the influence (DUI) convictions lead to higher premiums because they’re a sign you’ll file future claims.

But even with violations, you still have options for Audi A3 insurance. Some companies specialize in helping drivers with past incidents find affordable coverage.

The table below shows average insurance costs based on driving record, according to our data.

Driving Record

Average Monthly Premium

Clean record$175
Speeding ticket$235
At-fault accident$250
DUI$294

Rates can rise sharply after a traffic violation or DUI, sometimes by more than 50%. For example, an Audi A3 driver with a DUI pays about $120 more each month than one with a clean record.

Cheapest Audi A3 insurance for drivers with a speeding ticket

Getting a speeding ticket in your A3 can mean more than just points on your license. It can also increase your car insurance premium. Insurers know that speeding increases your risk of getting into an accident and filing a claim.[6] So they’ll raise your rates if you get a speeding ticket.

The severity of the ticket matters, too. Going just a few miles over the limit might raise rates slightly, but excessive speeding often leads to steeper increases.

The chart below shows average Audi A3 insurance rates by company for drivers with a speeding ticket, based on our data.

After an at-fault accident, Audi A3 drivers typically pay higher insurance rates. Claims exceeding a certain amount will trigger an increase, but how much and for how long it applies depends on the insurer.[7]

A DUI signals to companies that you’re a very high risk to insure. A blood alcohol level of .08 — the legal limit in most states — makes you four times more likely to get into an accident than a sober person, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).[8] Insurers respond to DUIs with higher rates, and some may decide not to renew your policy.

You’ll also probably need your insurer to file an SR-22 or FR-44 form with the state to prove you have the required insurance before you can get your license back.

You can reduce your Audi A3 insurance costs with a few smart strategies. Try these tips for lower rates:

  • Try to raise your credit. Insurers may use your credit history to determine rates. Drivers with good credit can get cheaper premiums than drivers with poor credit.

  • Consider your coverage options. If you have a newer A3, you may need full coverage. But older A3 owners may need only liability coverage.

  • Raise your deductible. Increasing your deductibles will lower your monthly premium, but you’ll pay more if you file a claim.

  • Compare quotes. Comparing car insurance quotes from different companies can help you find the cheapest rates for your A3.
