Key Takeaways
  • BMW Z4 insurance averages $139 per month, which is about 15% lower than the national average of $163 per month.

  • USAA offers the lowest average rate for Z4 drivers, at $73 per month.

  • The Z4’s luxury details and sporty design increase repair costs. But safety features help offset higher premiums.

Average Car Insurance Cost for BMW Z4

BMW Z4 insurance costs depend on the type of policy and coverage level you choose. A liability-only policy covers damage you cause to someone else in a crash. Full coverage includes liability, plus collision and comprehensive insurance.

Collision covers damage to your Z4 in an accident, and comprehensive pays for damage from things like fire, theft, vandalism, and weather-related incidents.

Rate hikes yet again. Leaving USAA after 28 years.

They have significantly increased rates over the last few years. I have excellent credit, a clean driving record, and no claims, yet rates increased again this renewal by another $160 per 6 months. My rate has increased over $400 in the last 18 months to now $1562.68 for 6 months.

Our experience with USAA was horrendous. We lost our home to Hurricane Beryl. Having been a member for 27 years and never making any claims, this experience was indescribable. USAA, to whom we had paid $410.36 for years, had me doing their job. No tickets, no DUI, and a 20-year-old driver. That is too expensive for anyone. After Beryl, there was no power, which meant no electricity, no internet, no open stores, no food, and no gas. By the beginning of the second month, USAA tried to make Texas Wind and Air responsible, then FEMA, for paying for the broken roof, fallen trees, flooded home, and damaged AC. We decided to pack up and move on our own dime again. USAA is and always will be a ripoff. Very expensive to be a USAA member. Never again. We are just fine with AAA. Personally, the old ways of taking care of folks with insurance are only found and available with AAA. USAA has not stopped offering me a job with their claims department since Hurricane Beryl, though. I must know what I am doing better than my agent, who got fired for drinking and falsifying claims documents. There's more to the storyline with USAA. Plan on having to call them constantly to make sure they are at work.

BMW Z4 Insurance Rates by Driver Age

Car insurance for the Z4 often gets more affordable as you gain driving experience. Younger drivers pay higher premiums because they have higher crash rates and less time behind the wheel. But rates drop sharply in your 20s and 30s, and seniors enjoy the lowest rates overall.

The table below shows average monthly premiums for the BMW Z4 by driver age, based on our data.

Cheapest BMW Z4 car insurance for teens and drivers younger than 25

Young drivers, especially teens, pay more for Z4 insurance because they have a much higher crash risk. In fact, teen drivers are nearly four times more likely than older drivers to get into accidents due to inexperience and risky behavior.[5]

The chart below shows the cheapest monthly premiums for BMW Z4 drivers younger than 25, according to our data.

Cheapest BMW Z4 car insurance for seniors

Seniors often enjoy lower car insurance rates because they typically drive less and take fewer risks while driving. Research shows older drivers are less likely than middle-aged drivers to be in fatal crashes, thanks to safer habits and vehicles.[6]

BMW Z4 Insurance Rates by Driving Record

Few things matter more to insurers than your driving record. Past accidents and traffic violations signal future risk, prompting companies to adjust premiums accordingly.

Maintaining a clean history can save money, while repeated incidents often push rates higher. But certain companies focus on helping high-risk drivers secure coverage after serious violations.

The table below shows how average monthly premiums vary based on your driving record, according to Compare.com data.

Cheapest BMW Z4 insurance for drivers with a speeding ticket

A speeding ticket can cause your Z4 insurance rate to jump sharply. Even one violation can mark you as a higher-risk driver because speeding increases your risk of getting into an accident and filing a claim.[7] The amount of that increase often depends on how fast you were going and your prior record.

The chart below shows the cheapest companies for Z4 drivers with a speeding ticket, based on our data.

Cheapest Rates With a Ticket

Cheapest BMW Z4 insurance for drivers with an accident

Your car insurance rates can spike after an accident — especially if you’re at fault. Insurers raise premiums because accidents suggest a higher risk of future claims. The more severe the collision, the greater and longer-lasting the rate increase.[8]

The chart below shows the cheapest car insurance companies for BMW Z4 drivers with an at-fault accident, according to our data.

Cheapest Rates With an Accident

Cheapest BMW Z4 insurance for drivers with a DUI

A DUI is one of the most serious driving violations, and it can potentially double your insurance rates. That’s because insurers view DUI convictions as strong indicators of high-risk driving habits. They know that people with one DUI are more likely to have another in the future and to file a potentially serious claim.[9]

Many states even require your insurer to file an SR-22 or FR-44 form to prove you have the required insurance before you can get your license back.

    Vehicle value

The 2026 Z4 sDrive30i starts at $57,275. That expensive price tag could increase rates with some insurers to account for premium parts and high-performance components.

    Trim level

The higher-end Z4 M40i starts at nearly $70,000 and has a more powerful engine and more torque. That extra power increases the risk of claims and could raise your insurance premium.

    Safety features

The Z4 doesn’t have safety ratings from the IIHS or NHTSA, but it comes standard with forward-collision warning, automatic braking, and rollover protection. Ask your insurer if the Z4’s safety features can get you a discount.

How to Get Cheaper Car Insurance for Your BMW Z4

Although you might pay more for this luxury coupe, you still have plenty of ways to cut your Z4 insurance bill. Here are a few tips to cut your costs:

  • Bundle policies. Combine your Z4 insurance policy with your renters or home insurance for a multi-policy discount. You can also add another vehicle for a multi-car discount.

  • Store it safely. Keep your Z4 in a locked garage and install a theft-recovery system to reduce theft risk and potentially qualify for discounts.

  • Show off your safe driving skills. Many insurers offer telematics programs that reward safe driving over time.

  • Shop around regularly. Compare free quotes from multiple insurers to make sure you get the best rate for your Z4.
