Key Takeaways
  • The average Scion FR-S costs $184 per month, slightly higher than the national average of $166 per month for all vehicles.

  • USAA offers the cheapest insurance coverage, at $91 per month.

  • The Scion FR-S’s sports-car classification can raise rates, though strong crash-test ratings and older model age may help lower them.

Average Car Insurance Cost for the Scion FR-S

The cost of car insurance varies depending on your policy setup. A liability-only policy (your state-minimum coverage) costs the least. But it only covers damages you cause to others, up to coverage limits, through bodily injury liability coverage and property damage liability.

Full-coverage car insurance costs more because it adds coverage for your vehicle through collision coverage. It also adds comprehensive insurance, which covers non-collision damages like theft.

In the following table, you’ll find the average cost for Scion FR-S car insurance, according to Compare.com data.

Rate hikes yet again. Leaving USAA after 28 years.
Reviewed in Arizona on July 2025
They have significantly increased rates over the last few years. I have excellent credit, a clean driving record, and no claims, yet rates increased again this renewal by another $160 per 6 months. My rate has increased over $400 in the last 18 months to now $1562.68 for 6 months.

Our experience with USAA was horrendous. We lost our home to Hurricane Beryl. Having been a member for 27 years and never making any claims, this experience was indescribable. USAA, to whom we had paid $410.36 for years, had me doing their job. No tickets, no DUI, and a 20-year-old driver. That is too expensive for anyone. After Beryl, there was no power, which meant no electricity, no internet, no open stores, no food, and no gas. By the beginning of the second month, USAA tried to make Texas Wind and Air responsible, then FEMA, for paying for the broken roof, fallen trees, flooded home, and damaged AC. We decided to pack up and move on our own dime again. USAA is and always will be a ripoff. Very expensive to be a USAA member. Never again. We are just fine with AAA. Personally, the old ways of taking care of folks with insurance are only found and available with AAA. USAA has not stopped offering me a job with their claims department since Hurricane Beryl, though. I must know what I am doing better than my agent, who got fired for drinking and falsifying claims documents. There's more to the storyline with USAA. Plan on having to call them constantly to make sure they are at work.

Currently Disgruntled with State Farm Insurance
Reviewed in Oregon on December 2025
Due to State Farm also being our homeowner insurance, and due to them canceling our homeowner insurance and the emotional effect of this cancellation, we are not too happy with State Farm. When pricing other home insurance providers, we learned from these potential providers that we were paying considerably higher for our State Farm car insurance than other insurance companies. Thus, if I were to advise a friend regarding State Farm, I would tell them my experience was that I found much cheaper car insurance with other providers. However, the agent LuAnn Davidson, our State Farm agent, on four different occasions went to bat for us (took our side) when we had issues with State Farm and caused the issue to be resolved in our favor. We were with State Farm for more than 10 years. I would advise my friend if you are going with State Farm, have LuAnn be your agent.

Scion FR-S Insurance Rates by Driver Age

Car insurance companies consider your age a strong predictor of risk. Teens and young drivers pay the highest rates because they get into more accidents than other age groups.[3] Costs decrease as you age and reach lifetime lows in your senior years.

Here’s how FR-S rates change based on age group, according to Compare.com data.

Cheapest Scion FR-S car insurance for teens and drivers younger than 25

Insurers typically offer the highest rates to teen drivers, followed closely by drivers younger than age 25. Younger drivers have less experience on the road, wear seat belts less, engage in distracted driving, and speed more than average. Young drivers also have higher accident rates than other age groups.[3]

Still, some insurance companies offer cheaper rates to this group. Here are the cheapest insurers for young FR-S drivers, according to Compare.com data.

Cheapest Rates for Young Drivers

Cheapest Scion FR-S car insurance for seniors

Car insurers offer the cheapest rates to senior drivers because this group has more experience and drives fewer milesiles, which likely contributes to its lower car accident rates. But some insurers will offer even lower rates to seniors.[4]

The following chart lists the five most affordable auto insurance companies for senior FR-S drivers, according to our data.

Scion FR-S Insurance Rates by Driving Record

Insurance companies also pay close attention to your driving history when determining the cost of your policy. Drivers with clean records tend to get lower rates (and good driver discounts), while drivers with violations often see higher rates.

Here are the average premiums for FR-S drivers based on various driving records, based on our research.

FR-S drivers with a clean record pay the lowest premiums, while drivers with a conviction for driving under the influence (DUI) pay the most.

Cheapest Scion FR-S insurance for drivers with a speeding ticket

Speeding tickets can cause insurance rates to increase because they indicate a higher risk of a future insurance claim. In fact, speed-related crashes accounted for 29% of traffic fatalities in 2023.[5] But several insurers treat speeding tickets with more leniency than others.

Here are the cheapest insurers for Scion FR-S drivers with a speeding ticket, according to Compare.com data.

Cheapest Scion FR-S insurance for drivers with an accident

When you cause an at-fault accident, you can expect rates to rise significantly because it increases your risk profile. In fact, research shows that an at-fault accident can increase the chances of a future accident by 88%.[6] That said, some insurers offer more affordable rates than others to this group.

We’ve listed the five cheapest auto insurers for FR-S drivers with an at-fault accident in the chart below.

Cheapest Scion FR-S insurance for drivers with a DUI

Insurers typically price policies for drivers with a DUI conviction so high because alcohol contributes to a high number of crash-related fatalities. Drivers with a DUI also have elevated rates of repeat offenses.[7] Even so, you can still find affordable coverage with a DUI on your record.

Here are the insurance companies with the cheapest rates for FR-S drivers after a DUI, according to Compare.com data.

Deep Dive: What Affects Scion FR-S Car Insurance Rates?

Many vehicle characteristics shape insurance risk and premiums. Here’s what can affect your Scion FR-S insurance rates:

  • Age: Even the most recent FR-S is nearly a decade old, which can lower its value and your premiums.[8]

  • Depreciation: Despite its age, the resale value for the FR-S has recently increased, potentially raising rates.

  • Trim style: Insurance for the more expensive Series 2.0 Coupe 2D may run higher than for the base model.

  • Safety rating: The FR-S earns a 5.0 crash test rating, which can lower rates.[9]

  • Classification: Insurers tend to view sports cars as higher risk, which can increase rates for the FR-S.

How to Get Cheaper Car Insurance for Your Scion FR-S

A black Scion FR-S parked near a forest area

Here are a few strategies to help lower your FR-S insurance costs.

  • Raise deductibles. Higher deductibles typically result in lower monthly car insurance premiums, but be sure you can pay the out-of-pocket costs if you file a claim.

  • Drop unnecessary coverage. If you drive an older FR-S, consider whether dropping collision or comprehensive coverage makes sense for you.

  • Use discounts. Car insurance discounts, like telematics programs and bundling with home insurance, can significantly reduce your rates.

  • Avoid future violations. Even with existing tickets, safe driving can lower your premiums as older tickets fall off your record.

  • Compare premiums. Shopping around and comparing car insurance quotes from several insurers makes it easy to see which company offers the most value for its price.

  • Is the Scion FR-S expensive to insure?
