Moving on.
Smallridge State Farm, I would not recommend. They wanted to overcharge me for my new car, so I transferred to Bradley Blessing State Farm in Belleview, Florida, and got insurance for $70 less. I also got no help from them with the transfer—I had to call corporate myself to get it done. I feel that since there was no money in it for them, they weren’t going to help with the transfer as they said they would. I have been with Bradley’s office before and was always treated with the utmost respect. I would highly recommend his team to do the job.

Disappointed with American Family Insurance
I have been with American Family Insurance for more than 40 years. In that time, the service from American Family has deteriorated to the point that I am considering in my final years changing to the AARP Hartford program. My original American Family agent was outstanding. But once he became ill and had to retire, the agency has gone downhill, and I understand it is now closed, and my files were transferred to another agency.

Iowa Auto Insurance Requirements

A modern arch bridge spans a calm river, with a city skyline in the background under a cloudy sky. A curved path leads to the bridge.

In Iowa, you must have liability coverage to legally drive. The state’s minimum liability limits requirements are:[8]

Insurance companies must also offer uninsured and underinsured motorist (UM/UIM) coverage in Iowa, though you can decline it in writing. This coverage can provide valuable protection. It helps pay for your injuries or vehicle damage if you’re the victim of a hit-and-run or struck by a driver who has no insurance or too little coverage.

Is minimum coverage enough in Des Moines?

Minimum coverage may not be enough for many drivers. Iowa’s minimum limits meet the legal requirements, but they don’t go far if you’re in a serious crash or total someone else’s vehicle.

The Iowa Insurance Division and many insurance experts find that most drivers need higher liability limits to protect their finances — especially in states where people can sue you if you’re at fault.[9]
