Rate hikes yet again. Leaving USAA after 28 years.

They have significantly increased rates over the last few years. I have excellent credit, a clean driving record, and no claims, yet rates increased again this renewal by another $160 per 6 months. My rate has increased over $400 in the last 18 months to now $1562.68 for 6 months.

Our experience with USAA was horrendous. We lost our home to Hurricane Beryl. Having been a member for 27 years and never making any claims, this experience was indescribable. USAA, to whom we had paid $410.36 for years, had me doing their job. No tickets, no DUI, and a 20-year-old driver. That is too expensive for anyone. After Beryl, there was no power, which meant no electricity, no internet, no open stores, no food, and no gas. By the beginning of the second month, USAA tried to make Texas Wind and Air responsible, then FEMA, for paying for the broken roof, fallen trees, flooded home, and damaged AC. We decided to pack up and move on our own dime again. USAA is and always will be a ripoff. Very expensive to be a USAA member. Never again. We are just fine with AAA. Personally, the old ways of taking care of folks with insurance are only found and available with AAA. USAA has not stopped offering me a job with their claims department since Hurricane Beryl, though. I must know what I am doing better than my agent, who got fired for drinking and falsifying claims documents. There's more to the storyline with USAA. Plan on having to call them constantly to make sure they are at work.

Though the MDX is a luxury vehicle, it costs less than the average luxury car, which can help keep insurance costs low.

Below, you can see how average rates change depending on your vehicle model year, and the cheapest insurers for each year, according to Compare.com data.

Cheapest Acura MDX car insurance for teens and drivers younger than 25

Young drivers, especially teenagers, tend to pay the highest insurance rates because they’re more likely to speed, drive while distracted, and engage in other higher-risk driving activities, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).[4] But some insurance companies offer cheaper rates for teens.

Here are the cheapest insurers for teen Acura MDX drivers, on average, with rates based on data from Compare.com.

Cheapest Rates for Young Drivers

Cheapest Acura MDX car insurance for seniors

Senior drivers usually pay lower car insurance premiums because they have more experience on the road and drive less, according to data from the Federal Highway Administration.[5] This leads to fewer fatal and less severe car accidents, which lowers their risk and insurance rates.[6] Even so, some insurers offer even lower rates for this group.

The following table shows the cheapest car insurance companies for senior MDX drivers, according to data from Compare.com.

Acura MDX Insurance Rates by Driving Record

Your driving history has a significant effect on car insurance rates. People with clean driving records get lower rates and can even earn safe driver discounts. Having even one speeding ticket can increase costs.

As expected, drivers with a clean record pay significantly less than people with a history of driving under the influence (DUI) convictions, which are the most costly. Let’s take a closer look at how violations affect costs.

Cheapest Acura MDX insurance for drivers with a speeding ticket

Even a single speeding ticket can increase your premiums because speeding increases the risk of car accidents. Speed-related car crashes accounted for 29% of traffic deaths in 2023, according to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).[7]

That said, you can still potentially find affordable coverage with certain insurers despite having a speeding ticket on your record.

The table below lists the cheapest insurers with MDX drivers with a ticket, according to data from Compare.com.

Cheapest Rates With a Ticket

Cheapest Acura MDX insurance for drivers with an accident

One at-fault accident on your record increases car insurance rates because it indicates to insurers that you have a higher risk of having another at-fault accident. Insurers price policies for drivers they deem higher risk than others, but some companies offer competitive rates to drivers with an accident in their recent history.

Here are the cheapest insurers for MDX drivers with an at-fault accident, according to Compare.com data.

Cheapest Rates With an Accident

Cheapest Acura MDX insurance for drivers with a DUI

A DUI conviction can significantly increase your car insurance rates. That’s because driving under the influence increases the risk of fatal car accidents, and insurers will assume you have a higher likelihood of having a second DUI.

That said, drivers with a DUI can usually lower rates with discount programs and by working with insurers that historically offer lower rates to this group.

This table outlines the cheapest car insurance companies for Acura MDX drivers with a DUI, based on data from Compare.com.

No matter your starting point, you can find ways to save money on car insurance. Here are a few steps you can take to save on auto coverage:

  • Maintain a clean record. Keeping a clean driving record helps keep auto insurance rates low.

  • Build good credit. Drivers with a good credit history often earn cheaper rates than drivers with poor credit. To improve your credit, make sure you pay your bills on time and try to keep your credit card balances low.

  • Increase your deductible. Setting a higher deductible can lower your car insurance rates because you’re committing to pay more out of pocket in the event of a claim.

  • Bundle your coverage. You can often earn a multi-policy discount for bundling your auto coverage with renters or home insurance.

  • Compare rates. Getting and comparing car insurance quotes regularly is the best way to find good rates.

Acura MDX Insurance FAQs

  • Is an Acura MDX expensive to insure?

The cost of auto insurance for the Acura MDX is about the same as insuring the average vehicle. Liability insurance runs an average of $85 monthly, while full coverage will cost you around $155.

  • How can I get the best price on car insurance for my Acura MDX?

The only way to make sure you're getting the most affordable price on insurance is to check prices regularly and compare quotes from a variety of companies. It's recommended to review quotes every 6 months or so. Luckily, sites like Compare.com let you compare premiums from many carriers at once, meaning you can find the cheapest rates (or guarantee you already have the best deal) for free.

  • Does the color of my Acura MDX affect my insurance rates?

You've probably heard that it costs more to insure red cars than silver or white ones, but that's actually a myth. Although there are lots of variables car insurance companies examine when they decide how much to charge you for insurance, your car's color isn't one of them.

  • Do I need to have insurance before I buy an Acura MDX?

You'll need to have a valid car insurance policy before you can legally drive your new (or new to you) MDX off the dealership lot. Some dealerships may offer you an auto insurance policy as part of the car-buying process, but it's best to let your auto insurance company know beforehand.

  • What car insurance discounts can I get for my Acura MDX?

There are tons of discounts out there for car insurance. Many of them (like "safe driver discounts" and "multi-policy discounts") are more based on you than the vehicle you drive, but if your MDX has safety features like anti-theft systems, anti-lock brakes, airbags, and other features, it may qualify for certain discounts. The only way to find out is to get in touch with your insurance carrier and ask about their list of discounts.
