USAA insures and cares
I have had USAA insurance policies since 1967 and continue to have USAA insurance because it has been there for me for all these years. USAA stood by me and my family in 1992 when I lost my car and home to Hurricane Andrew. USAA has always been there for me in my moments of need.

Excessive insurance coverage for a car that goes nowhere!
My car is 10 years old. I do not drive it very much, but the insurance coverage amount, in my opinion, is just too high for a car that is used or driven maybe once to three times a month. I really feel that I have been and still am paying too much for a car that goes nowhere.

Allstate Experience
Overall, Allstate has been good. The Drivewise discount is certainly a plus. We haven't filed any claims, so I can't speak to their service on that front. A negative would be the constantly raising rates, which is the trend with most insurance companies. It's quite frustrating given we haven't filed claims and have excellent credit.

Cheapest Toyota RAV4 car insurance for teens and drivers younger than 25

RAV4 car insurance tends to be higher for young drivers, especially teens. Teens are more likely to engage in risky driving behavior, including distracted driving. In fact, 1 in 3 teens admit to texting while driving, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).[3] When teens are distracted, they can’t focus on hazards on the road, increasing the likelihood of accidents.

Fortunately, parents with teen drivers can lower their insurance costs with the right insurance company.

The following chart shows the cheapest average insurance companies for teen RAV4 drivers, according to Compare.com data.

RAV4 car insurance rates tend to be lower for seniors. This is largely due to their safe driving habits and, in many cases, fewer miles driven. Many insurance companies offer senior-specific car insurance discounts, giving seniors an opportunity to save even more.[4]

Toyota RAV4 Insurance Rates by Driving Record

Your driving history has a major effect on your auto insurance rates because insurers use it to predict how likely you are to file a claim. A single speeding ticket can raise premiums for several years, while more serious violations, like a DUI, typically lead to much larger increases.

The table below shows the average monthly RAV4 insurance rates by driving record, based on Compare.com data.

Drivers with a clean record pay an average of $139 per month, but those costs increase after a speeding ticket or at-fault accident. A driving under the influence (DUI) conviction leads to the highest costs, with an average monthly premium of $234.

Cheapest Toyota RAV4 insurance for drivers with a speeding ticket

If you have a speeding ticket on your record, you’ll likely face higher car insurance costs. Speeding significantly increases crash risk and contributed to 11,775 speeding-related deaths in 2023.[5]

Because insurance companies weigh violations differently, comparing quotes can help limit how much your rates increase after a violation. The chart below shows some of the cheapest companies for RAV4 drivers with a speeding ticket, based on Compare.com data.

Cheapest Toyota RAV4 insurance for drivers with an accident

Drivers with an at-fault accident typically pay higher car insurance rates because insurers see them as more likely to file future claims. Your insurer will increase your premium a certain percentage (which varies by company), and the increase could remain on your policy for about three years.[6]

But shopping around for coverage can help keep your rates affordable. The chart below shows the average monthly premiums for RAV4 drivers with an at-fault accident, according to Compare.com data.

Cheapest Toyota RAV4 insurance for drivers with a DUI

A DUI is a serious offense that will leave you paying the highest insurance premiums. That’s because alcohol-impaired driving can lead to fatal crashes. In fact, it accounted for nearly 32% of all traffic fatalities in 2022, according to the NHTSA.

As a result, insurers classify DUI offenders as high-risk drivers, and some insurers may even refuse to offer you coverage. Still, insurers weigh convictions differently, so shopping around can make a significant difference.

Deep Dive: What Affects Toyota RAV4 Car Insurance Rates?

Several factors influence the cost of insuring a Toyota RAV4, including pricing, repair costs, and theft rates. Here are some things to consider when purchasing a RAV4.

  • Vehicle value: New RAV4s typically cost between $33,154 and $39,100, depending on the trim level.[7] Because insurers factor a vehicle’s replacement cost into premiums, higher-priced trims typically cost more to insure.

  • Depreciation and resale: RAV4s tend to depreciate 28% after five years, with a resale value of $27,315.[8] Insurers base payouts on a vehicle’s actual cash value when you file a claim, so depreciation can influence how much the insurer pays after a total loss.

  • Repair costs: RAV4s don’t have high maintenance costs and tend to be fairly affordable to own. Maintenance costs for the RAV4 are typically lower than average for compact SUVs.

  • Safety features and ratings: The RAV4 received a five-star safety rating from the NHTSA thanks to features like forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, crash-imminent braking, and dynamic brake support. Some insurers offer discounts for vehicles with advanced safety features.

  • Theft risk: Vehicles with a high theft rate tend to have higher average car insurance premiums. RAV4s aren’t among the most stolen vehicles in 2024, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau.

How to Get Cheaper Car Insurance for Your Toyota RAV4

Because the Toyota RAV4 has strong safety ratings and moderate repair costs, you may be able to lower your premiums. Here are a few strategies you can use to find the best car insurance:

  • Take advantage of safety discounts. Newer RAV4s come with advanced driver-assistance features like automatic high beams, lane tracing assist, and roadside assist. Ask your insurer if these safety features help you qualify for a discount.

  • Adjust your coverage. If you drive an older, paid-off RAV4, it may make sense to consider liability-only coverage if your vehicle’s value no longer justifies full coverage.

  • Bundle policies. Many insurance companies offer discounts for bundling multiple policies, like auto and homeowners insurance.

  • Shop annually. Rates can vary widely, especially for popular models. It’s worthwhile to compare free quotes at every renewal period, even if you’re happy with your current insurer.

  • Maintain good credit. Unless you live in a state that doesn’t allow insurers to consider credit, maintaining good credit could lead to lower car insurance rates.

  • Raise your deductible. Choosing a higher deductible can help lower your premiums, as long as you can cover the higher deductible out of pocket.
