Disappointed with American Family Insurance
I have been with American Family Insurance for more than 40 years. In that time, the service from American Family has deteriorated to the point that I am considering in my final years changing to the AARP Hartford program. My original American Family agent was outstanding. But once he became ill and had to retire, the agency has gone downhill, and I understand it is now closed, and my files were transferred to another agency.

Only one thing, rates. I was penalized for higher than normal mileage for a period of time and have gone back to normal, but the increased rate still applies.

Bait and switch when time to renew after a year.
It started out with a good price and policy coverage, but when it was time to renew a year later, despite having no tickets or accidents, the price went up by $150.00. It was not right and became unaffordable after that.

Failure to Serve Our Vets
Pricing and value for your money are poor. Home insurance has become way too expensive. USAA sends you a notice saying they’re renewing your policy, but they don’t clearly tell you what changes they’ve made. When someone says they are renewing your policy, most people assume the contract is the same and they are agreeing to renew it with you. However, USAA makes changes, and it’s up to you to read the entire contract and find any changes they may have made. I personally went from a $1,000 deductible to a 2% deductible and didn’t know it until I made a claim. Now I’ve learned that every six months you have to read the entire contract to see if USAA has made any changes. I’ve lost faith in this company and will only remain with them until I find another company. I’ve also found that if you file a car claim, your insurance will go up at the next renewal. USAA has come under new management, and since then the pricing and customer service have gone down. I’m looking for a company that’s truly concerned about the welfare of its members and dedicated to the people they should be serving.

How Much Car Insurance Do You Need in Nebraska?

The Nebraska flagNebraska, like nearly every state, requires all drivers to meet minimum insurance requirements. You must maintain proof of financial responsibility and have it in the vehicle at all times.

State-minimum car insurance coverage in Nebraska includes the following amounts:

  • $25,000 per person in bodily injury liability

  • $50,000 per accident in bodily injury liability

  • $25,000 per accident in property damage liability

  • $25,000 per person in uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage

  • $50,000 per accident in uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage[4] [5]

Should you buy full-coverage insurance in Nebraska?

Full-coverage car insurance gives you more protection after an accident than liability-only insurance. It typically includes comprehensive and collision insurance, which help cover things like hitting a stationary object, theft, and weather damage.

That said, you could save on your premiums and skip full coverage if you can afford to pay for repairs yourself. It also may not be worth it if you’ve paid off your car, or if it isn’t worth much.

  • Most insurers offer a variety of ways to customize your policy. Some optional coverages you might want to consider include:

    • Comprehensive coverage

    • Collision coverage

    • Medical payments (MedPay)

    • Personal injury protection (PIP)

    • Gap insurance

    • Glass coverage[6]
