Rate hikes yet again. Leaving USAA after 28 years.
Reviewed in Arizona on July 2025
They have significantly increased rates over the last few years. I have excellent credit, a clean driving record, and no claims, yet rates increased again this renewal by another $160 per 6 months. My rate has increased over $400 in the last 18 months to now $1562.68 for 6 months.

Our experience with USAA was horrendous. We lost our home to Hurricane Beryl. Having been a member for 27 years and never making any claims, this experience was indescribable. USAA, to whom we had paid $410.36 for years, had me doing their job. No tickets, no DUI, and a 20-year-old driver. That is too expensive for anyone. After Beryl, there was no power, which meant no electricity, no internet, no open stores, no food, and no gas. By the beginning of the second month, USAA tried to make Texas Wind and Air responsible, then FEMA, for paying for the broken roof, fallen trees, flooded home, and damaged AC. We decided to pack up and move on our own dime again. USAA is and always will be a ripoff. Very expensive to be a USAA member. Never again. We are just fine with AAA. Personally, the old ways of taking care of folks with insurance are only found and available with AAA. USAA has not stopped offering me a job with their claims department since Hurricane Beryl, though. I must know what I am doing better than my agent, who got fired for drinking and falsifying claims documents. There's more to the storyline with USAA. Plan on having to call them constantly to make sure they are at work.

I don't know if I'm paying too much as I'm almost 90 years old. I fill my gas tank once a month, very low mileage, and when I question it, I'm not sure I get a proper response.

How to Choose the Right Coverage for Your Volvo

A blue Volvo XC60 SUV parked on a sunlit cobblestone street near modern glass buildings and green trees.

Finding the most affordable Volvo auto insurance can feel great for your budget. But if you ever need to file a claim, the cheapest car insurance might not be the best. You should consider both protection and price when choosing auto coverage.

Below are some tips to make sure your insurance gives you the coverage you need for your Volvo.

  • Understand your risk. Volvo SUVs are family favorites. If you regularly have passengers in your car, it’s a good idea to opt for more coverage with higher limits. Minimum coverage might satisfy your state’s requirements, but it could leave you financially vulnerable if you’re in an accident.

  • Satisfy your lender’s requirements. If you finance or lease your Volvo, your lender usually requires you to have full-coverage insurance to protect their investment.

  • Consider add-ons. Optional coverages like emergency roadside service and gap insurance might be worth the additional cost if they give you more protection and peace of mind.

  • Adjust your deductible. Consider paying a higher deductible to save on your monthly premiums. But make sure you have money set aside to pay for repair costs if you’re in an accident, because you’ll pay more out of pocket.

Once you know the type of coverage that works best for your Volvo, you can find insurance companies that best fit your situation.

How to Get Cheaper Car Insurance for Your Volvo

Close-up of a black Volvo car's rear, showcasing the brand logo and taillights, with a blurred outdoor background.

Average Volvo car insurance rates are slightly cheaper than the national average. But with the tips below, you can lock in even more savings.

  • Leverage Volvo safety features. Your Volvo’s safety features can help you save on coverage. Many insurers offer discounts for safety features like blind-spot warning and collision detection alarms.

  • Buy a cheaper Volvo. Your Volvo’s value affects your insurance rates. Buying a less expensive model can reduce your premium.

  • Bundle multiple vehicles. Many companies offer multi-car discounts for insuring more than one car on an auto policy.

  • Ask about low-mileage discounts. If you work from home or don’t drive often, ask your insurer if they offer usage-based or low-mileage programs to help you save.

  • Shop around. Car insurance prices fluctuate. You should compare quotes at least once a year to make sure the insurance rates you’re paying are still the best value.
