The Audi Q5 is a luxury compact SUV with a sleek look and impressive performance. That might make them appealing cars to drive on a daily basis, but it also leads to higher insurance costs. Q5 drivers pay $158 per month for car insurance, according to Compare.com data.

Audi Q5 insurance rates are a bit higher than the national average, possibly due to the 2025 model’s higher starting MSRP of $52,200.[1] The vehicle also has luxury features that can be expensive to repair.

Here’s what you need to know about auto insurance for the Audi Q5, including how to find a good deal on a policy.

Key Takeaways
  • Safeco, Root, and Mercury offer some of the cheapest average premiums for Q5 drivers.

  • Insuring an older Q5 model typically costs less than buying coverage for a newer model. The average monthly cost to insure a 2016 Q5 is $151, but 2025 Q5 drivers pay an average of $177.

  • The 2025 Q5 comes in three different trims, with starting costs ranging from $52,000 to $60,600.

How Much Does It Cost to Insure an Audi Q5?

The type of plan you choose will affect your car insurance costs. Liability insurance is the cheapest coverage option, but it pays for damages and injuries only to other drivers after an at-fault accident. A full-coverage policy, on the other hand, is more expensive because it also covers theft, vandalism, at-fault accidents, and many other incidents.

In the table below, you can view average monthly premiums for the Audi Q5 and how they compare to the national average for all vehicles, according to Compare.com data.

Nationwide might be a good fit for you if you don’t drive your Audi Q5 often, like if you’ve retired or work remotely. Its SmartMiles program allows you to only pay for the miles you drive and offers a 10% discount for responsible driving.[3]

You could also enroll in SmartRide, Nationwide’s telematics program, and score a discount right away. If you demonstrate safe driving, you may get up to 40% off your Q5 insurance premium.

Pros
  • Offers gap insurance and a vanishing deductible

  • Variety of advertised discounts

  • Free annual insurance review

Cons
  • Not available in every state

  • SmartMiles not available everywhere

  • Discounts vary by state

They have significantly increased rates over the last few years. I have excellent credit, a clean driving record, and no claims, yet rates increased again this renewal by another $160 per 6 months. My rate has increased over $400 in the last 18 months to now $1562.68 for 6 months.

Our experience with USAA was horrendous. We lost our home to Hurricane Beryl. Having been a member for 27 years and never making any claims, this experience was indescribable. USAA, to whom we had paid $410.36 for years, had me doing their job. No tickets, no DUI, and a 20-year-old driver. That is too expensive for anyone. After Beryl, there was no power, which meant no electricity, no internet, no open stores, no food, and no gas. By the beginning of the second month, USAA tried to make Texas Wind and Air responsible, then FEMA, for paying for the broken roof, fallen trees, flooded home, and damaged AC. We decided to pack up and move on our own dime again. USAA is and always will be a ripoff. Very expensive to be a USAA member. Never again. We are just fine with AAA. Personally, the old ways of taking care of folks with insurance are only found and available with AAA. USAA has not stopped offering me a job with their claims department since Hurricane Beryl, though. I must know what I am doing better than my agent, who got fired for drinking and falsifying claims documents. There's more to the storyline with USAA. Plan on having to call them constantly to make sure they are at work.

Audi Q5 Insurance Rates by Age

Insurers also consider your age when they calculate your car insurance premium. That’s because there’s a direct relationship between driving experience and car accidents. Teens and young drivers often face higher costs than middle-aged and senior drivers because they’re more likely to get into accidents.[6] But as you get older and become more experienced on the road, your premium typically decreases.

Let’s take a look at car insurance rates for each age group, according to Compare.com data.

Teens with an Audi Q5 pay $389 for an auto policy, on average, but this price significantly decreases in your 20s. Your premiums will continue to go down each year, but will inch up again when you turn 70.[7]

Audi Q5 Insurance Rates by Driving Record

Your driving history is another factor that affects your car insurance rates.[5] Serious traffic violations, such as speeding, at-fault accidents, and driving under the influence (DUI), position you as a high-risk driver. As a result, auto insurance companies will charge you higher premiums.

The table below highlights the average monthly insurance costs for Audi Q5 drivers with different driving histories, according to Compare.com data.

To lock in the lowest rates, do your best to maintain a clean driving record. Q5 owners with a clean record pay $133 less per month, on average, than drivers with a DUI.

Different features on your SUV can also affect your premiums, which we’ll discuss in more detail below.

Audi Q5 Features and Options That Affect Insurance Rates

Close-up of an Audi car interior showing the steering wheel, digital dashboard, and gear shift in a sleek, modern design.

The features in your Audi Q5 can have a major effect on what you pay for car insurance. That’s because they play a role in your vehicle’s safety, theft risk, and repair costs. Some vehicle trims increase the value of your Q5 and cost more to repair or replace, leading to higher rates.

For example, the base trim (Premium TFSI quattro S tronic) is likely cheaper to insure. But if you opt for the top-of-the-line trim (Prestige TFSI quattro S tronic) you’ll likely pay more expensive premiums due to the following luxury features:

  • Multi-media interface display with 10.9” screen

  • Adaptive air suspension

  • Digital OLED taillights

  • Ventilated front seats

  • Heated rear seats

How to Get Cheaper Car Insurance for Your Audi Q5

A blue SUV driving quickly on a city street with a blurred background of orange-striped buildings.

Regardless of your driving record and situation, you can find ways to lower your car insurance costs. The following tips can help you secure cheaper auto insurance coverage for your Audi Q5:

  • Choose a lower-level trim. The Premium or Premium Plus Q5 trims may have cheaper rates than the top-tier Prestige.

  • Search for discounts. Most insurance companies offer discounts to help you save some money on your car insurance. Look for discounts like the multi-car discount, defensive driving discount, or bundling discount.

  • Increase your deductible. Another way to save on an auto policy is to choose higher deductibles. But if you do so, make sure you have the cash to pay for the higher out-of-pocket expenses after a covered claim.

  • Shop around. Do your research, and get car insurance quotes regularly from at least three different insurance companies. Then, compare premiums, coverage levels, discounts, and more to find the right plan for your Q5.
