Our experience with USAA was horrendous. We lost our home to Hurricane Beryl. Having been a member for 27 years and never making any claims, this experience was indescribable. USAA, to whom we had paid $410.36 for years, had me doing their job. No tickets, no DUI, and a 20-year-old driver. That is too expensive for anyone. After Beryl, there was no power, which meant no electricity, no internet, no open stores, no food, and no gas. By the beginning of the second month, USAA tried to make Texas Wind and Air responsible, then FEMA, for paying for the broken roof, fallen trees, flooded home, and damaged AC. We decided to pack up and move on our own dime again. USAA is and always will be a ripoff. Very expensive to be a USAA member. Never again. We are just fine with AAA. Personally, the old ways of taking care of folks with insurance are only found and available with AAA. USAA has not stopped offering me a job with their claims department since Hurricane Beryl, though. I must know what I am doing better than my agent, who got fired for drinking and falsifying claims documents. There's more to the storyline with USAA. Plan on having to call them constantly to make sure they are at work.

Beyond your location, insurance companies will also focus on the risks you pose as a driver. Insurers typically consider driver age when setting premiums, which you can learn more about below.

BMW X3 Insurance Rates by Age

Auto insurance companies will look at your age when determining your X3 premiums. That’s because research shows a link between driving experience, age, and car accidents.[7]

For example, teens with less experience on the road typically pay higher costs than middle-aged drivers. But as you get older and gain more experience behind the wheel, your rate will typically decrease.

Here’s a look at X3 car insurance costs by age group, according to Compare.com data.

Disclaimer: Table data sourced from real-time quotes from Compare.com's 50-plus partner insurance providers. Actual quotes may vary based on the policy buyer's unique driver profile.

Teens with a BMW X3 pay $399 per month for an auto policy, on average. But the cost of insurance should typically decrease as you enter your 20s and 30s. Your premiums will typically continue to go down each year until you hit age 70, when rates will start to tick back up.[8]

BMW X3 Insurance Rates by Driving Record

Your driving history is another factor that significantly affects your car insurance costs. Traffic violations on your record — such as speeding, at-fault accidents, and driving under the influence (DUI) — makes you as a high-risk driver. Car insurance companies will often increase your premiums as a result.

The table below outlines the average monthly insurance costs for BMW X3 owners with different driving records, according to Compare.com data.

To lock in the best deal on car insurance coverage, try to maintain a clean record. On average, X3 owners with a clean record pay $137 less per month than drivers with a DUI.

Now, let’s discuss how different features on your luxury SUV can affect your rates.

BMW X3 Features and Options That Affect Insurance Rates

The features in your BMW X3 can affect how much you pay for auto insurance. That’s because these features can directly influence the safety, theft risk, and repair costs of your SUV. Some vehicle trims boost your X3’s value and cost more to repair or replace, leading to higher premiums.

For instance, the base X3 xDrive30 trim is likely less expensive to insure than more expensive trims. But if you opt for the top-of-the-line X3 M50 xDrive, you’ll likely have higher rates due to the following high-end features:

  • 3.0-liter BMW M TwinPower Turbo engine

  • M Sport brakes

  • Variable sport steering

  • M leather steering wheel

How to Get Cheaper Car Insurance for Your BMW X3

A white BMW SUV parked on a street, surrounded by greenery and a stone wall in the background.

You can find ways to save money on your coverage regardless of your driving record, age, and other factors. The following tips can help you land a good deal on your X3 auto policy:

  • Opt for a lower-level trim. If you choose the X3 xDrive30 instead of the X3 M50 xDrive, you’ll have fewer special features, but you’ll likely lower your car insurance costs.

  • Look for discounts. Most auto insurance companies offer discounts to lower your rates. Look for auto-pay, defensive driver, and bundling discounts.

  • Increase your deductible. With a higher deductible, you’ll secure cheaper premiums. Just be sure you have the funds to pay for the larger out-of-pocket expenses after filing a claim.

  • Shop around. Do your research and get car insurance quotes regularly from at least three different insurers. Then, compare rates, coverage options, customer service reviews, and more to find the right plan for your X3.
