Cadillac’s penchant for large, luxurious vehicles has been the brand’s hallmark for generations of drivers. But like the rest of the automotive world, Cadillac is embracing the future — and full electrification for all new vehicles moving forward. The 2023 LYRIQ debut edition, a mid-size luxury battery electric SUV, marks automaker General Motors’ first Cadillac electric car.

Are you looking for an electric crossover that’s a change of pace from other popular all-electric vehicles like the Tesla Model Y or Audi e-tron? With sophisticated exterior styling and a posh interior, the LYRIQ is unmistakably Cadillac. This article will explore the vehicle’s pricing, performance, and interior specs to help you determine whether the Cadillac LYRIQ is the right all-electric SUV for you.

Trim, Pricing, and Interior Specs

Cadillac LYRIQ interior

The 2023 Cadillac LYRIQ EV is a standalone model that isn’t available in different trim levels. That said, it can be pre-ordered with two different powertrains: a rear-wheel-drive model scheduled for delivery in the fall of 2022 and an all-wheel-drive model expected for delivery in early 2023.

This all-electric SUV is as sophisticated as it is sporty. The car’s LED headlamps integrate into its front “black crystal” grille featuring a backlit Cadillac insignia — one of many stylish exterior touches.

The manufacturer’s suggested retail price is $62,990 for rear-wheel drive and $64,990 for all-wheel drive. As of March 2022, the average cost of an electric vehicle was $60,054. So despite its many luxury features, the LYRIQ falls in line with the average price of an EV.

The highlight of the LYRIQ‘s interior has to be the cleverly designed 33-inch diagonal LED display. The screen curves toward the driver as a continuous unit, resembling the command of a small spacecraft instead of a mid-size SUV. The screen displays standard information such as driving range, mph, drive status, and temperature control, all in customizable themes. Hands-free navigation and assistance are available with Google built-in compatibility, and the car also integrates with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Performance Specs

LYRIQ’s roomy interior is directly related to its performance capability. The 2023 Cadillac LYRIQ is powered by GM’s all-new Ultium battery technology. This flat-stacking design enables lower cabin floors that provide more interior room than EVs that use circular-shaped batteries.

The LYRIC offers 340 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque with an EPA-estimated 312 miles of range on a full charge. Specs for the forthcoming all-wheel-drive model are even more impressive, with a 500 hp engine capability and a trailer and towing package capable of hauling up to 3,500 pounds.

The 2023 LYRIQ is one of only a few new Cadillac models equipped with Super Cruise driving-assistance technology. The system offers hands-free driving with automatic lane changing on compatible roads nationwide that, according to Cadillac, “are separated from opposing traffic.” Which roads, exactly, has yet to be announced.

Cargo Space and Passenger Room

So how many friends can cruise with you in the Cadillac LYRIQ? The vehicle has comfortable seating for five passengers. While not quite as big as the seven-seat EVs on the market today, no matter where you sit, it’s a luxurious experience. The cabin has a variety of etched wood inlays and a sloping full-glass roof. Active noise cancellation preserves the peace and quiet.

The car also features a very cool ambient lighting system. Drivers can choose from 26 colors in two zones, including footwells and door panels. Nighttime cruises through the city may call for blue lighting, while evening rides through the country may warrant green ambiance — whatever strikes your fancy.

Though not as spacious as its gas-powered cousin, the Cadillac Escalade, the LYRIQ’s roomy back seat offers nearly 40 inches of legroom, thanks to its aforementioned flat-stack battery integration. Already ample at 28 cubic feet, cargo space expands to an impressive 60.8 cubic feet with the rear seats folded.

Safety

If safety is a top priority, the Cadillac LYRIQ certainly answers the call. The Cadillac Smart System offers standard driver-assistance features, including adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and front pedestrian braking with bicyclist detection.

The LYRIQ comes with GM’s HD Surround Vision and Vision Recorder, which monitors the vehicle’s surroundings at all times. This Cadillac electric car also features a standard HD Rear Vision Camera with its own washing system, so you never have to worry about dirt or grime blocking your view.

Are you sharing your ride with a newly licensed driver? The LYRIQ offers Teen Driver vehicle diagnostics to monitor top speeds and distance traveled by younger, less experienced drivers.

Charging

The Cadillac LYRIQ comes with a portable dual-level cord set EV charger for use with 120-volt and 240-volt residential outlets. Customers who want to install a faster 11.5-kWh or 19.2-kWh Level 2 wall-mounted charger can purchase one from Cadillac for an additional fee.

As of May 2022, the purchase of a new Cadillac electric car comes with two years of unlimited complimentary charging on the EVgo network. New buyers can also have the costs associated with installing a Level 2 charger at their home covered by Cadillac. These are great incentives for those giving up gasoline-powered vehicles for the first time.

The car is also compatible with Level 3 or DC Fast Charging stations nationwide.

Who Should Buy the Cadillac LYRIQ?

Cadillac’s legacy of luxury — not to mention its target market — may lead many to believe that the LYRIQ is best suited toward the executive set: retirees or empty nesters looking for an all-electric vehicle as comfortable and technologically savvy as it is efficient.

But the LYRIQ’s reasonable entry-level price, spacious cargo room, and comfortable rear seating make it well suited to suburban families and commuters in the market for their first new EV. The impressive safety features of this all-electric SUV should appeal to any driver looking to keep themselves and those on board safe.

Lastly, along with newfound fuel savings, the LYRIQ is also eligible for a variety of new EV tax credits and rebate programs.
