I have had USAA insurance policies since 1967 and continue to have USAA insurance because it has been there for me for all these years. USAA stood by me and my family in 1992 when I lost my car and home to Hurricane Andrew. USAA has always been there for me in my moments of need.

Unprofessional
I pay my insurance monthly. With that being said, I sold one of my vehicles so I was not expecting to pay the insurance bill for that month. I contacted customer service to inform them I sold the vehicle, and they would not adjust my bill but said that the money would be taken off the next month’s bill. Well, that didn’t happen either. Instead, they stated it was taken off the premium. I also emailed a local agent, since it was a weekend, to call me at his earliest convenience that Monday morning and never received a call or an email. Very unprofessional!

Cheapest Tesla Model 3 car insurance for teens and drivers younger than 25

Auto insurance premiums start high for young drivers and decrease with age. Teen drivers tend to pay the highest car insurance rates because teens are at a greater risk of being in a car accident than any other age group.[2] Insurers price car insurance policies to account for the high risk of a claim.

But some auto insurance companies offer lower premiums for young drivers than others. The table below shows the cheapest car insurance companies for Tesla Model 3 drivers younger than 25, according to Compare.com data.

Cheapest Tesla Model 3 car insurance for seniors

Older drivers are less likely to speed and more likely to drive safely than younger drivers. Also, they tend to be involved in fewer accidents because they drive fewer miles.[3]

For these reasons, drivers in their 60s pay the lowest car insurance premiums. But insurers may charge slightly higher rates for senior drivers older than 70 or 75 due to age-related risk factors.

That said, each insurer calculates rates for seniors a little differently, and some offer senior-specific discounts to help you save money. The table below shows the cheapest auto insurance companies for senior Tesla Model 3 drivers, according to Compare.com data.

Tesla Model 3 Insurance Rates by Driving Record

If you have at-fault accidents, speeding tickets, or other major traffic violations on your driving record, insurance companies will consider you a high-risk driver and raise your premiums accordingly. For example, car insurance rates increase by an average of 34% for drivers with a speeding ticket, according to Compare.com data.

The severity of the infraction affects the premium increase and how long your rate stays high. A driving under the influence (DUI) conviction is a serious offense. It could significantly affect your insurance rates for three to 10 years, depending on your state and your insurer’s pricing policy.

The table below shows how common infractions affect average premiums, according to Compare.com data.

If you have a speeding ticket on your driving record, insurers will view you as a high-risk driver. In 2024, speeding was a contributing factor in 29% of car accident deaths, according to National Safety Council data.[4] The effect of a speeding ticket on insurance rates depends on the severity of the infraction, the number of tickets, and the laws in your state.

Some auto insurance companies give less weight to speeding tickets than others when setting premiums. The table below shows the cheapest car insurance companies for Tesla Model 3 drivers with a speeding ticket, according to Compare.com data.

After an at-fault accident, your car insurance rates will rise due to the increased risk of future claims. Premium increases vary by company, but generally stay elevated for three years after claim filing.[5] After several serious at-fault accidents, you may even face non-renewal.

After an at-fault accident, it’s a good idea to compare car insurance quotes. Some companies are more lenient than others when calculating premiums for drivers with accidents on their records. The table below shows the cheapest insurers for Tesla Model 3 drivers after an at-fault accident, according to Compare.com data.

Cheapest Tesla Model 3 insurance for drivers with a DUI

Of all major traffic violations, a DUI typically causes the greatest increase in your car insurance premiums. Driving under the influence is risky — 32 people die in drunk-driving accidents each day, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.[6]

The exact effect of a DUI depends on state law, the legal outcome of the offense, and the auto insurer, but you’ll likely pay higher premiums for years.

For example, after a DUI in California, your car insurance rate could more than double and remain elevated for up to 10 years, according to the California DMV. You could continue to face higher rates even if your record is expunged.

But some car insurance companies tend to be more forgiving of DUIs than others. The companies below offer the cheapest rates to Tesla Model 3 drivers with DUIs, according to Compare.com data.

Deep Dive: What Affects Tesla Model 3 Car Insurance Rates?

A white electric car driving on a scenic rural road with lush greenery and hills, under a cloudy sky.

Several factors influence how auto insurers set premiums for the Tesla Model 3.

  • Value of the car: While more affordable than some luxury cars, the MSRP for the 2026 Tesla Model 3 ranges from $38,380 to $56,380.[7] Insurance is high because the car is expensive to replace.

  • Vehicle repair costs: Luxury or high-performance electric vehicles are more expensive to insure. They’re built with premium parts, specialized batteries, and advanced technology, which makes repairs after an accident more costly.

  • Theft rates: The Tesla Model 3 is among the least-stolen vehicles in terms of claim frequency among 2022–2024 models, according to IIHS data. This can help lower insurance premiums.

  • Safety record and safety features: The Tesla Model 3’s safety record and features vary by model year. The 2025 Tesla Model 3 was an IIHS Top Safety Pick. But in 2022–2024, the Tesla Model 3 had substantially worse-than-average collision-claim insurance losses, which may negatively affect average premiums.

How to Get Cheaper Car Insurance for Your Tesla Model 3

Tesla showroom featuring a black car, displays for Solar Roof, Powerwall, and Wall Connector, with a second white car visible in the background.

Tesla Model 3 insurance may be more expensive than average, but you can score lower premiums in a few ways:

  • Choose a high deductible: Raising your deductible will lower your monthly premium. Just make sure you have enough in a savings account to cover your share of the repair cost if you need to file a claim.

  • Look for discounts: Take advantage of vehicle equipment discounts relevant to the Tesla Model 3, such as safety or anti-theft device discounts. Some insurers, like Travelers, even offer discounts for electric vehicles.

  • Enroll in a usage-based program: Sign up for a telematics program that rewards you with premium savings for low mileage or safe driving behavior.

  • Compare car insurance quotes: Since every insurer weighs your information differently, you can save money on car insurance by shopping around. Collect quotes from a few different insurers or use a comparison site before buying a policy.
