Much to the joy of critics and drivers alike, the 2022 Audi Q4 e-tron combines impressive design and fun-to-drive capability in an all-electric package. Audi’s lineup of e-tron models passes the style and comfort test and has enough room for five passengers. But if you’re shopping for an electric car, it’s good to know how far it can go on a full battery before you buy.

In this article, we’ll examine the Audi Q4 e-tron range and whether it varies by trim. We’ll see how the EV stacks up range-wise against the competition. And we’ll share some details about specs if you decide that the Audi Q4 e-tron is the right electric vehicle for you.

Does the Audi Q4 e-tron Range Vary by Trim?

No matter which Audi Q4 e-tron you choose, it will come with an all-electric range of 241 miles when fully charged. Each trim level runs on an electric motor powered by a 77-kWh battery pack. The electric SUV is capable of 295 hp, which is about a third less than its cousin, the Audi Q4 e-tron Sportback .

An Audi Q4 with the brand’s famed e-tron quattro all-wheel-drive (AWD) powertrain is designated as an Audi Q4 50 e-tron. The rear-wheel-drive (RWD) model is designated as an Audi Q4 40 e-tron.

The trims of the Audi Q4 e-tron feature escalating levels of interior comfort and technology. If you choose a more expensive version, remember that EV rebates or tax credits can reduce the car’s retail price if your purchase is eligible.

Audi Q4 50 e-tron Premium

MSRP: $49,900

The base model Q4 e-tron comes with solid standard features and is a relatively affordable entry for those looking for a reasonably priced electric car. Interior comforts include a 10.25-inch touchscreen and digital instrument cluster, Audi’s easy-to-use smartphone interface, and an LED interior lighting package.

Audi Q4 50 e-tron Premium Plus

MSRP: $54,000

The Audi Q4 e-tron Premium Plus trim comes with a more elaborate LED interior lighting package that allows drivers to select different hues to illuminate the car’s interior. This level also includes a heated steering wheel, a hands-free power tailgate, and enhanced safety features, including adaptive cruise assist with lane guidance.

Audi Q4 50 e-tron Prestige

MSRP: $57,500

This top-tier Audi Q4 e-tron edition offers enhanced voice-activated Audi MMI Navigation and an infotainment system as part of the Audi Virtual Cockpit Plus technology. Matrix-brand LED headlights light the road ahead while sound moves through the cabin via a Sonos-brand luxury sound system. An augmented reality head-up display projects real-time vehicle information right on the windshield.

Long-time Audi fans will be disappointed to learn that the Audi Q4 e-tron range pales in comparison to the competition. The following chart illustrates how the Audi Q4 e-tron stacks up against miles of range from class-similar all-electric vehicles:

2022 Model Max Range of Miles on Full Charge (Battery-Only)
Tesla Model Y 330 miles
BMW iX 324 miles
Rivian R1S 316 miles
Kia EV6 310 miles
Ford Mustang Mach-E 303 miles
Hyundai IONIQ 5 300 miles
Volkswagen ID.4 280 miles
Hyundai KONA Electric 258 miles
Audi Q4 e-tron 241 miles

If price is a big consideration when choosing your electric car, the Hyundai KONA Electric has a starting MSRP of $36,000 — that’s nearly $20,000 less expensive than the Audi Q4 with 17 more miles of range

Similarly, the Kia EV6 has a starting MSRP of $40,900 and an EPA-estimated 310 miles of range. That’s over 50 more miles of range than the Audi Q4 e-tron for $10,000 less.

Other Q4 e-tron Features to Note

Now that you know about the miles of range and the different trim levels of the Audi Q4 e-tron, here are some additional details about the vehicle to better inform your choice:

Passenger and Cargo Room

While the vehicle’s range might not be able to hang with the competition, the interior certainly can. Climb into sleek, comfortable black leather seating and get behind the unique, squared-off steering wheel with touch control features.

The car’s premier Bang & Olufsen brand sound system has a variety of customization features like tone adjustment, surround level, and sound focusing. Stereos found in competitive vehicles simply can’t compare.

The Audi Q4 e-tron features 18.4 cubic feet of cargo room with five passengers in tow and an impressive 52.6 cubic feet of space with the rear seats folded.

Battery and Charging

The vehicle comes with an 82.0 kWh battery (77 kWh of which is usable) that connects to a Level 2 charger on the right-side rear of the car. With a charging speed of 30 miles  per hour, the battery reaches full charge in 8 hours and 15 minutes on a Level 2 charger and 33 minutes on a Level 3 or DC fast charger.

Safety and Security

Every trim level of the 2022 Audi Q4 e-tron comes with driver-assist technologies and safety features to protect you and your passengers on the road. Stability control prevents the driver from losing control of the car. In the event of a collision, overhead airbags and automatic seatbelt tension adjustment ensure that passengers stay  secured. A security system comes standard and can detect unwanted intrusion into the vehicle.

Who Should Get an Audi Q4 e-tron?

If you’re looking for speed, the Audi Q4 e-tron is probably not for you. Its 295-hp output is a bit sluggish, even among the all-electric SUV class. If you want your new Audi to have a little more growl so you can pass fellow drivers with ease, the Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron is the better choice.

The Audi Q4 e-tron may struggle to draw in EV buyers because its miles of range rank among the lowest of all electric vehicles in the 2022 model year. The lower range is surprising given the price point of the car’s entry-level trim. If you’re shopping on a budget, there are more economical choices with better range.

The passenger and cargo room, while adequate, probably isn’t roomy or practical enough for large families. But suppose luxury styling and superior comfort are your main priorities in an all-electric vehicle. In that case, the Audi Q4 e-tron may be right for youparticularly if you’re a single commuting professional, a small family that keeps to shorter distances, or a retiree looking for a fashionable all-electric ride.
