How much car insurance is required in Corpus Christi?

Texas requires all drivers to have liability insurance. You must have at least the following coverage limits to legally drive in the state:

This is commonly known as 30/60/25 coverage. It’s also worth noting that while you don’t have to buy personal injury protection or uninsured motorist coverage, Texas requires insurers to automatically include these coverages in all policies. If you don’t want them, you can opt out in writing.

Cheapest Full-Coverage Car Insurance in Corpus Christi: State Farm

Full-coverage car insurance provides much more financial protection than a liability-only policy. Full coverage typically includes collision and comprehensive coverage in addition to liability. These added coverages pay for repairs to your vehicle after an accident or non-collision incident.

Collision coverage pays if you collide with another vehicle or an object like a tree. Comprehensive pays for things like hail damage. But that added protection comes at a cost — it also costs much more than liability insurance.

In Corpus Christi, full-coverage policies cost an average of $216 per month.

Texas doesn’t require you to have full coverage, but if you have a loan or lease on your car, your lender will. Even so, it’s typically a good idea to have full coverage, as it can save you hundreds or even thousands if you cause an accident.

The chart below highlights the cheapest car insurance companies in Corpus Christi for full coverage, according to our data.

How to Get Cheaper Car Insurance in Corpus Christi

Aerial view of a coastal cityscape with tall buildings, roads, green spaces, and a waterfront harbor under a clear sky.

Thankfully, you can save money on your car insurance policy in Corpus Christi in a number of ways. Consider the following tips if you’re looking to save money.

  • Apply for discounts. Just about every insurer offers several auto insurance discounts. Ask your insurer or insurance agent what you qualify for and add the ones that make sense for your policy. It can save you hundreds each year in premium costs.

  • Bundle your policies. Consider bundling your auto insurance with homeowners insurance, renters insurance, or other insurance products from the same insurer. Insurers often offer hefty discounts for this on both policies.

  • Increase your deductible. Consider raising your deductible (what you pay when you file a claim). It can save you a lot on premiums each month, but just make sure you can afford the extra costs if you file a claim.

  • Compare car insurance quotes. Always compare quotes from at least three car insurance companies before buying a policy. This is one of the best ways to save money on a car insurance policy.

Why we picked this company

Mile Auto is an excellent option for retired drivers or Corpus Christi residents who work from home. Its policies allow you to pay based on the number of miles you drive monthly, so if you only drove during the past month, you won’t be stuck paying a full premium for hardly any usage. That said, it’s only available in eight states, so if you leave Texas, you may need to find a new insurer.

Pros
  • Easy quote process

  • Pay based on mileage

  • Doesn’t track your driving data via telematics

Cons
  • Limited availability

  • Customers indicate claim process is difficult

  • High number of negative reviews

Liability Only
Liability-only insurance, sometimes called minimum-coverage insurance, pays for bodily injury and property damage to others in an accident the policyholder causes. It does not pay for the insured’s own damages.

Full Coverage
Full-coverage car insurance generally includes liability, collision, and comprehensive coverage, and may include other optional coverages such as uninsured motorist coverage. Collision covers a policyholder’s repair or replacement costs in case of an accident. Comprehensive covers damages caused by non-accident events. The average quote displayed here reflects policies with the following coverage limits: $50,000 bodily injury liability per person; $100,000 bodily injury liability per accident; $50,00 property damage liability per accident; $1,000 collision deductible; and a $1,000 comprehensive deductible.

Failure to Serve Our Vets
Pricing and value for your money are poor. Home insurance has become way too expensive. USAA sends you a notice saying they’re renewing your policy, but they don’t clearly tell you what changes they’ve made. When someone says they are renewing your policy, most people assume the contract is the same and they are agreeing to renew it with you. However, USAA makes changes, and it’s up to you to read the entire contract and find any changes they may have made. I personally went from a $1,000 deductible to a 2% deductible and didn’t know it until I made a claim. Now I’ve learned that every six months you have to read the entire contract to see if USAA has made any changes. I’ve lost faith in this company and will only remain with them until I find another company. I’ve also found that if you file a car claim, your insurance will go up at the next renewal. USAA has come under new management, and since then the pricing and customer service have gone down. I’m looking for a company that’s truly concerned about the welfare of its members and dedicated to the people they should be serving.

Why we picked this company

USAA is a great option for drivers who are active-duty military, veterans, or family members of either. It offers exclusive coverage to these drivers, allowing it to offer competitive rates and member-exclusive perks and discounts. But it doesn’t offer the cheapest average rates in Corpus Christi, so if you don’t think you’ll take advantage of USAA’s other benefits, it may not be right for you.

Pros
  • Available nationwide

  • Competitive rates

  • Military-specific discounts

Cons
  • Only available to members of the military community

  • Gap insurance not available

  • Has no brick-and-mortar office locations in Corpus Christi

Repeated offenses will result in higher fees between $350 and $1,000, potential suspension of your vehicle registration and driver’s license, and authorities may even impound your vehicle for up to six months.
