We found that the overall average monthly cost for car insurance in Garland is $183, but certain drivers pay more for car insurance. For example, Teens pay some of the highest rates, at an average of $361 per month. Drivers with a recent at-fault accident pay an average of $240 per month.

But these average rates are broad. Your rate may be higher or lower, since your unique driver profile determines your rates. The insurer you choose also affects your rates, which is why it’s crucial to compare car insurance quotes from multiple companies before buying a policy.

Texas Auto Insurance Requirements

Texas, like nearly every state in the country, requires all drivers to have car insurance. Every driver must have the following coverages:

While Texas law doesn’t require uninsured motorist coverage, every car insurance company must offer it. To learn more about Texas car insurance laws, see the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) website.[1]

Is minimum coverage enough in Garland?

While minimum coverage is enough by legal standards, it’s typically not enough for the average Garland driver. Insurance experts strongly recommend buying more coverage for greater financial protection.

Drivers generally buy collision and comprehensive coverage along with state-minimum liability coverage — also known as full-coverage car insurance. Your lender will likely require you to purchase full coverage if you lease or finance your vehicle.

Full-coverage insurance provides costs more but provides more protection than a liability-only policy. It pays for your injuries and vehicle damages rather than just the other driver’s expenses.[2]

Not sure where to place the Drive Safe app on the fob in the vehicle. One month I save a little, the next month it's up again. I don't drive every day like most. I'm retired and have this new truck, which I don't see ever putting on the national average miles. I may drive it once or twice a month. Yet my savings don't reflect that. I've been insured with State Farm since I was 17. I'm 62. I should be saving a lot more.

Not good at all

Bad customer service, no discounts, overpriced, and they do not care about their customers. My mom had been with them for 56 years, and they would not assist her or give her time to get the information she needed. They talked really horribly to her. I got coverage for 3 cars for less than the amount they were charging me for 3. I have no tickets or DUIs, and they gave me no discounts. I will never use their service again or refer anyone I know.

Garland Car Insurance Discounts

Taking advantage of discounts is one of the easiest ways to lower your premium and save on car insurance. Availability of discounts can vary by state, but most are available across the country.

Here are some of the best car insurance discounts you can get in Garland.

  • Safe driver: Many insurers offer safe driver discounts to drivers who go without a claim for a certain amount of time. Driving safely is one of the best ways to keep your rates low, as they’ll likely start low if you’re incident-free.

  • Loyalty: If you stay loyal to your insurer for an extended period of time — typically at least two years — you could see reduced rates.

  • Multi-policy: Bundling multiple policies — typically home and auto — with one insurer can often get you a hefty discount.

  • Telematics: Some insurers offer telematics programs that track your driving, which can result in lower rates for safe drivers. But if you drive unsafely, you could see your rates go up.

  • Anti-theft: If your car has specialty safety devices that make it harder to break into or steal, you could see cheaper car insurance rates.

Other Ways to Get Cheaper Car Insurance in Garland

Cars driving on a busy street

You can get cheaper car insurance in Garland beyond applying for discounts. Here are some additional money-saving strategies.

  • Keep a clean driving record. Maintaining an incident-free driving history is the best way to get cheaper car insurance. Insurance companies strongly consider your driving record when setting rates, so practice safe driving to keep your premium low.

  • Increase your deductible. Raising your deductible will automatically lower your monthly premiums. Just make sure you can afford to pay the increased amount out of pocket if you need to file an insurance claim.

  • Read customer reviews. Always read customer reviews and ratings before choosing a car insurance company. And make sure you understand what you can expect if you ever need to file a claim.

  • Compare car insurance quotes. Before buying a policy, always compare car insurance quotes from as many insurers as possible. Every insurer determines rates differently, so quote comparison is essential for finding the cheapest car insurance.
