Rate hikes yet again. Leaving USAA after 28 years.

They have significantly increased rates over the last few years. I have excellent credit, a clean driving record, and no claims, yet rates increased again this renewal by another $160 per 6 months. My rate has increased over $400 in the last 18 months to now $1562.68 for 6 months.

Our experience with USAA was horrendous. We lost our home to Hurricane Beryl. Having been a member for 27 years and never making any claims, this experience was indescribable. USAA, to whom we had paid $410.36 for years, had me doing their job. No tickets, no DUI, and a 20-year-old driver. That is too expensive for anyone. After Beryl, there was no power, which meant no electricity, no internet, no open stores, no food, and no gas. By the beginning of the second month, USAA tried to make Texas Wind and Air responsible, then FEMA, for paying for the broken roof, fallen trees, flooded home, and damaged AC. We decided to pack up and move on our own dime again. USAA is and always will be a ripoff. Very expensive to be a USAA member. Never again. We are just fine with AAA. Personally, the old ways of taking care of folks with insurance are only found and available with AAA. USAA has not stopped offering me a job with their claims department since Hurricane Beryl, though. I must know what I am doing better than my agent, who got fired for drinking and falsifying claims documents. There's more to the storyline with USAA. Plan on having to call them constantly to make sure they are at work.

Why we picked this company

If you’re a Mustang owner looking for high-quality customer service and affordable rates, USAA is a great choice. USAA also offers great discounts to help you save even more, including discounts for good driving, bundling, and having a new vehicle and anti-theft devices. But USAA is available only to military members and their families.

Pros
  • Strong financial ratings

  • Great customer service ratings

  • Cheap Mustang rates

Cons
  • Only available to military members

  • Limited in-person agents

  • No diminishing deductible available

Currently Disgruntled with State Farm Insurance
Reviewed in Oregon on December 2025
Due to State Farm also being our homeowner insurance, and due to them canceling our homeowner insurance and the emotional effect of this cancellation, we are not too happy with State Farm. When pricing other home insurance providers, we learned from these potential providers that we were paying considerably higher for our State Farm car insurance than other insurance companies. Thus, if I were to advise a friend regarding State Farm, I would tell them my experience was that I found much cheaper car insurance with other providers. However, the agent LuAnn Davidson, our State Farm agent, on four different occasions went to bat for us (took our side) when we had issues with State Farm and caused the issue to be resolved in our favor. We were with State Farm for more than 10 years. I would advise my friend if you are going with State Farm, have LuAnn be your agent.

Why we picked this company

If you value in-person customer service, State Farm is a great option. Like many sports car owners, Mustang drivers have unique needs, and it can be helpful to have a reliable agent to turn to if you need to submit a claim. State Farm also has some of the cheapest rates available. But the company doesn’t offer accident forgiveness or gap coverage.

Pros
  • Large network of in-person agencies

  • Available nationwide

  • Solid claims satisfaction rating

Cons
  • No gap coverage available

  • Fewer optional coverages

  • No accident forgiveness

Besides your state and ZIP code, insurers also consider your age when calculating your premiums. Let’s take a closer look at exactly how your age affects car insurance premiums for Ford Mustangs.

Ford Mustang Insurance Rates by Driver Age

Your age is one of the first things insurance companies look at when setting car insurance prices. Young drivers, especially people younger than 25, usually end up paying a lot more because of higher accident rates. Although teens make up just 3.6% of licensed drivers, they’re involved in 9.1% of crashes, according to the National Safety Council (NSC).

Our research uncovered the average monthly Ford Mustang auto insurance rates by age group, shown in the table below. It also lists the cheapest insurer for each age group and its average monthly premium.

Cheapest Ford Mustang car insurance for teens and drivers younger than 25

Insurance rates for young Ford Mustang drivers tend to be high because drivers younger than 25 are statistically involved in more crashes than older age groups.[1] Driving a sports car like the Mustang can increase that risk in the eyes of insurers.[2]

Even so, pricing varies dramatically from one company to another, so it’s still possible to find affordable rates. The insurers below offer the lowest average rates for Mustang drivers younger than 25, according to Compare.com data.

Cheapest Rates for Young Drivers

Cheapest Ford Mustang car insurance for seniors

Drivers older than 55 typically benefit from years of experience and safer driving habits. National crash data shows that older drivers have fewer severe crashes than middle-aged and younger drivers. This often leads to lower premiums for senior Ford Mustang owners.[3]

Several insurers also offer senior driver discounts, although rates still differ by company.[4] The insurers in the chart below generally provide the most competitive Mustang pricing for seniors, according to Compare.com data:

Ford Mustang Insurance Rates by Driving Record

Your driving history has a meaningful effect on Mustang insurance costs. Speeding tickets, at-fault crashes, and driving under the influence (DUI) convictions all signal higher risk to insurers, which can raise your premiums for many years. A speeding ticket alone can hike your rate by an average of 34%, while a DUI can cause it to rise by 68%.

Below is a breakdown of how common types of violations affect the average monthly cost of Ford Mustang coverage, based on our data.

Deep Dive: What Affects Ford Mustang Car Insurance Rates?

Several Mustang-specific characteristics influence how insurers set premiums. Key factors include:

  • Vehicle value and repair costs: The 2026 Ford Mustang’s pricing starts at $32,320 for the base model, but it can climb to over $60,000 for performance trims. Higher-horsepower models and specialty parts can increase repair costs, potentially driving up rates.

To help you save some cash on your Ford Mustang’s insurance, here are five insider tips to help you score a better deal:

  • Go with a less powerful model. High-performance models are exciting but often come with higher car insurance costs. A lower trim level — especially one with Ford’s 2.3L EcoBoost engine — can save you quite a bit on your car insurance premiums.

  • Invest in safety features. Equip your Mustang with the optional security package to add wheel locks, interior and exterior motion sensors, and a center locking console. These could save you a few bucks on your car insurance each month.

  • Choose your mods wisely. Customizing your Mustang with performance upgrades is tempting, but some modifications can increase your insurance rates.

  • Maintain a clean driving record. Car insurance companies can offer accident forgiveness, but it’s best to avoid accidents and speeding tickets if you want the best premiums.

  • Compare car insurance quotes. Don’t settle for the first Mustang insurance deal you find. Shop multiple insurers at least once yearly to see if you can save on premiums.
