Cheapest Liability Car Insurance in Augusta: Auto-Owners

Georgia requires all drivers to have liability insurance to drive legally. A liability-only policy includes bodily injury and property damage coverage that protects other drivers and their vehicles if you cause an accident. But while liability insurance offers some protection, many insurance experts recommend buying more coverage to protect yourself and your vehicle after a crash.

The chart below shows the five cheapest companies for state-minimum coverage, according to our research.

Average Liability Rates by Company

How much car insurance is required in Augusta?

Like nearly every U.S. state, Georgia requires drivers to have car insurance. To legally drive in the Peach State, you need the following coverage:[1]

  • $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident of bodily injury liability insurance

  • $25,000 per accident of property damage liability insurance

While Georgia doesn’t require drivers to have collision or comprehensive insurance, buying them can be a smart idea. That’s especially true if you finance or lease your car or drive a newer vehicle.

Cheapest Full-Coverage Car Insurance in Augusta: Auto-Owners

Full-coverage car insurance comes with a higher price tag but also gives you more protection. In addition to liability insurance, full-coverage policies typically include collision and comprehensive insurance.

Collision coverage pays for damages to your car if another driver hits you. Comprehensive coverage pays for damages due to events outside your control, like vandalism or severe weather. Lenders and leasing companies usually require you to buy full-coverage car insurance if you finance or lease your car.

Drivers in Augusta pay an average of $228 per month for full-coverage insurance.

Take a look at the five cheapest full-coverage insurers in the chart below, according to Compare.com data.

Cheapest Car Insurance for Teen Drivers: Country Financial

Teen drivers pay the highest car insurance rates of any age group in Augusta. That’s because teenagers’ inexperience on the road makes them riskier to insure. Teens are four times more likely to get into accidents than drivers ages 20 and older, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).[2]

The five insurers in the chart below offer the most affordable coverage for teenage drivers in Augusta, according to Compare.com data.

Cheapest Car Insurance for Senior Drivers: Auto-Owners

Unlike teens, senior drivers tend to pay the lowest car insurance rates of any age group. Senior drivers generally drive fewer miles and avoid driving at night, making them less risky to insure, according to the IIHS.[3]

Augusta seniors pay an average of $170 per month for car insurance. But several companies may offer lower-than-average rates.

The chart below shows the five cheapest auto insurers for Augusta seniors, according to Compare.com data.

The Cheapest Car Insurance for Drivers by Driving Record

Your driving record plays a big role in determining your rates. Having an incident on your record, like a driving under the influence (DUI) conviction, a speeding ticket, or an at-fault accident, can increase your rates when your insurance policy renews. This is because insurance companies now view you as a high-risk driver.[4]

But you still have ways to get affordable insurance if you have a less-than-perfect record.

The tables below show the cheapest insurers in Augusta for people with a recent ticket, at-fault accident, or DUI, according to Compare.com data.

Cheapest Car Insurance for Drivers by Credit

Georgia allows insurance companies to use your credit history to create a credit-based insurance score when determining your rates.[5] Insurance companies believe that your credit history can predict how likely you are to file a claim.[6]

Drivers with a good credit history have an average rate of $166 per month in Georgia, while drivers with poor credit have an average monthly rate of $236.

But not all insurance companies use your credit when determining your rates, and it’s still possible to find affordable insurance regardless of your credit.

The tables below show the cheapest companies for drivers with excellent and poor credit according to Compare.com data.

How to Get the Cheapest Car Insurance in Augusta

Aerial view of Augusta, GAGetting cheap car insurance doesn’t have to be hard. Here are some ways you can save on your premiums:

  • Look for discounts. Taking advantage of discounts is a great way to lower your car insurance costs. Some common options include bundling, multi-car, good student, safe driving, and paid-in-full discount. It’s worth asking your agent what you qualify for.

  • Shop around. Every insurer weighs your driving profile differently, so it’s important to shop around to get the best rate. Get quotes from at least three to five insurers to see which company offers you the best premium.

  • Increase your deductible. If you have full-coverage insurance, you can save by increasing your deductible on your comprehensive and collision coverage. But make sure you can afford the higher out-of-pocket cost if you have to submit a claim.

  • Adjust your coverage. Take a look at your policy to see if you’re paying for any coverages you don’t need. Dropping add-ons can help reduce your rates. But make sure you still have enough coverage to protect you and your car.

Augusta Auto Insurance FAQs

We’re here to help you find the best auto insurance policy for your needs. Below, we answered some common car insurance questions from Augusta drivers.

  • Augusta drivers pay an average of $189 per month for car insurance. Liability-only insurance costs $150 per month, while full-coverage costs $228 per month, according to Compare.com data.

  • Auto-Owners offers the cheapest auto insurance in Augusta, with rates starting at $77, according to Compare.com data.

  • Our top picks for car insurance in Augusta include Progressive, Mile Auto, and COUNTRY Financial. But every driver is different, so it’s important to compare rates from multiple companies.

  • It depends. Augusta drivers pay an average of $189 per month for auto coverage, compared to the U.S. average of $140. But the cost of your car insurance depends on many factors, including your driving history, age, ZIP code, gender, and coverage needs.

  • It depends. In general, experts recommend always getting more insurance if you can because liability insurance doesn’t cover your injuries or your car’s damage if you cause an accident. Liability insurance also doesn’t protect your car against weather damage, theft, vandalism, or collisions.

While Georgia’s coverage requirement is decently high, it could still leave you financially vulnerable. For example, say you have the minimum coverage and you total someone’s car. The car was worth $30,000, but your insurance company will cover only $25,000. You’re on the hook for the remaining $5,000. Without full coverage, you’ll also have to pay to repair your own car.
